"Whitley County Consolidated Schools is extremely proud of receiving the EPA's ENERGY STAR award designation. Providing a quality learning environment for all students is a goal of our school corporation and we have worked very hard towards that end. School dollars are continuing to shrink rapidly, and we like everyone else, strive to spend less dollars on utilities and more dollars in the classroom. Our partnership with Performance Services has allowed us to do just that."
When the master facility plan was first envisioned as early as 1990, the school corporation placed a stake in the ground to significantly reduce operating costs and create an optimal learning environment for students and staff. Whitley Schools looked to ENERGY STAR as one of several performance benchmarks because of the rigorous energy efficiency and learning environment national standards. Performance Services was selected to renovate the mechanical systems and work with the facilities staff to help achieve the result.
Indian Springs received the ENERGY STAR label in 2008 and four additional buildings were just submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager scores of 83 or greater. A score of 75 means the school ranks in the top 25% of buildings for their size and type in the nation in terms of energy efficiency.
