Haiti Stewardship Project at Performance Services

Haiti Stewardship Project

On January 10, 2010, a massive earthquake struck the nation of Haiti, causing catastrophic damage inside and around the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

The village of Vialet is the home to 70 families and is located within the epicenter of the earthquake. Many families are destitute with grass hut homes that collapse with every strong wind. They are malnourished, have poor sanitation, drink unclean water and have few job opportunities.

Performance Services and our family of employees is working with the Food for the Poor organization to help sustain life and provide hope for the future.

 Our Work in Vialet:

  • Building 50 homes for 50 destitute families. These homes are made of concrete floors and cinder block walls. They should last 50 years and be able to withstand the frequent hurricanes they experience.
  • Providing 38 cows and 100 goats. Cows and goats can nourish the family and enable them to sell half of their milk at market for income. They will breed these animals to continue to increase their income over time.
  • Providing 250 fruit trees, five for each family. These trees will mature quickly, providing nourishment for the families and income from selling excess fruit at market. These trees can also be propagated for more fruit and income.

This contribution will help fifty families in Haiti to break the cycle of poverty and help position them for long-term growth. The Vialet project also helps Performance Services more fully live our Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles.
