Pete Smith

Business Development Consultant

OVERVIEW

Pete started with Performance Services in June of 2016. He retired as a teacher, administrator, and coach for five Indiana school corporations during a 33-year career in education a month earlier. Originally working for the South Bend Community School Corporation as a coach and student teacher, Pete was hired directly out of college by Warsaw Community Schools. His teaching and coaching path then took him to Manchester Community Schools, Noblesville Schools, Penn-Harris-Madison Schools, and Carmel Clay Schools.  Predominately in accounting and business economic classrooms, Pete built an equally-successful tenure as a physical education and health teacher and as a varsity boy's basketball coach, varsity track & field coach, and in athletic administration. While coaching the Noblesville Millers, Pete was an integral part of the 1995 building project for the new high school gymnasium. "The Mill" plays host to many IHSAA tournament events.

On the hardwood, Pete amassed 390 wins over 27 years as a head basketball coach. After playing for legendary coach Homer Drew at Bethel, Pete was an assistant coach for Warsaw’s state title run in 1984. In 1987 he began his head basketball coaching career at Manchester High School and led the school to an undefeated regular season during the 1990-1991 campaign.  Most recently, Pete reached the pinnacle of head coaching twice, leading Guerin Catholic High School to 3A state championships in 2012 and 2015.

Serving as an educational consultant for several editions of Glencoe accounting textbooks, Pete was awarded The South Bend Tribune Teacher of the Year award at Penn High School in the 1997-1998 year.  Celebrated in the coaching arena as well, Pete received The National Association of Basketball Coaches Guardians of the Game Award for Advocacy at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio in April 2008. He has coached in two McDonald’s High School All-American Games and served for a year as the Director of the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Basketball Game, known as the World Series of High School Basketball.

Pete and his wife Vicky live on Morse Lake in Noblesville. They have three grown children and three grandchildren. They enjoy being outdoors, spending time together traveling, and being with friends and their family.
