Avon Community School Corporation faced an important challenge: Avon Intermediate School East, an aging facility, needed major updates to meet the needs of students and teachers. Families wanted safe, modern learning spaces that reflected the district’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
Rather than pursue demolition, Avon Schools turned to Performance Services and embraced the Progressive Design-Build method. This approach provided a clear, cost-effective plan to renovate the building, ensuring students would have access to inspiring, future-ready spaces.
The 2019 renovation delivered environments where learning could thrive. Classrooms were paired with collaboration rooms to promote teamwork. A new Innovation Center and STEM labs gave students the tools to explore science and technology in hands-on ways. Natural light was introduced through clerestory skylights, while updated band, choir, and orchestra rooms elevated the arts. The cafeteria and commons were expanded, creating stronger community spaces. Safety and reliability were enhanced with a secure main entrance, a modernized administrative suite, and fully upgraded mechanical and electrical systems.
This investment gave Avon Schools a revitalized facility that first served students in grades 5–6. Years later, as the district planned and implemented a grade realignment, the building was ready to adapt. In July 2025, the community celebrated the reopening of the facility as Evergreen Elementary School.
What began as a project to modernize a critical school building became a lasting asset for Avon Schools. Today, Evergreen Elementary stands as proof of the district’s foresight and stewardship: a facility that not only met immediate needs but also adapted seamlessly to serve the evolving vision of Avon Community School Corporation.
