Converse, IN. Oak Hill United School Corporation will install two ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays at the Oak Hill Senior High School (644 kilowatts-dc) and Oak Hill Junior High School (1.25 megawatt-dc) and new LED lighting that is expected to generate a combined 1.89 megawatts of clean, renewable energy and offset approximately 78% combined electrical usage at the two buildings. The project is made possible by a guaranteed energy savings contract which will result in a cumulative net energy estimated savings of $6.3 million over 30 years. Approved by the school board on August 14th, the project will be completed in December 2017.

Oak Hill United School Corporation was looking for ways to reduce electrical costs at their school buildings and after a competitive process, the school board selected Performance Services to implement a $4.8 million energy savings project.

In addition, a comprehensive solar curriculum program developed by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) project and sponsored by Performance Services is available to the Corporation for use in the classroom. “This is an important extension of our value proposition for schools to provide high performing, energy-efficient buildings that provide optimal learning environments,” said Tim Thoman, President, and CEO of Performance Services. “The available education component reinforces our commitment to education and renewable energy in a way that directly benefits students by engaging and teaching how their own school’s solar-generated electricity systems work.”

The project will reduce the Corporation’s carbon footprint of its buildings and grounds. The energy produced by the solar array will reduce greenhouse gas by 1,756 metric tons, equivalent to the electricity needed to power an estimated 185 homes in a single year.
