Proactive Planning for Long-Term Impact

In McIntosh County, school leaders have taken a proactive approach to facility planning, prioritizing the projects that matter most while making smart use of available resources. From improving cybersecurity to tackling aging infrastructure, the district turned to a partner they could trust to guide them through each decision.

Through a growing partnership with Performance Services, McIntosh County Schools is implementing two important projects: a district-wide controls software and hardware upgrade and a roof replacement at McIntosh County Academy—both designed to protect investments, enhance security, and minimize disruption to learning.

Phase 1: Controls Upgrade for Campus-Wide Cybersecurity

Outdated building controls software can pose a serious risk to energy efficiency and cybersecurity. When McIntosh County Schools identified this issue across their campus, they reached out to Performance Services, which had already become a trusted planning partner through other facility discussions.

Thanks to extensive experience with controls systems, we were able to quickly and cost-effectively bring the district’s software up to date, significantly improving its cybersecurity posture. But the upgrades didn’t stop at software. Dated hardware throughout the campus was also replaced, giving the district a stronger, more reliable system.

As our technicians worked on-site, they discovered and resolved several existing communication issues, correcting them on the spot using parts already available, and at no additional cost to the district. The result: seamless migration, improved system performance, and added peace of mind.

Phase 2: McIntosh County Academy Roof Replacement

While planning facility priorities, one issue stood out—a failing roof at McIntosh County Academy. The gravel built-up roof was deteriorating in multiple areas, and school leaders knew it was time to act.

We guided the district through its options and helped them select a complete roof replacement using a white PVC membrane system, offering improved durability and energy performance. With school in session during construction, we are working closely with the district to plan carefully and minimize disruption to students and staff.

What set this project apart was the lead-up. One area of the roof had developed a persistent leak that others had tried—and failed—to fix. Instead of rushing into an early and costly replacement, our building envelope specialist, along with a trusted roofing consultant, successfully located and resolved the issue at no charge, giving the district time to replace the roof on its own terms.

A Smarter Path Forward

McIntosh County Schools has proven that with the right partner, even complex facility challenges can be solved with efficiency, transparency, and care. By prioritizing critical needs like cybersecurity and infrastructure integrity, the district is protecting its schools today while laying a solid foundation for tomorrow. Through thoughtful planning, cost-effective execution, and a commitment to minimizing disruption, McIntosh County is showing what it means to lead with vision and to invest in schools that truly serve students, staff, and the greater community.
