Ashland, KY. The Fairview Independent School District Board of Education voted to move forward and select Performance Services Inc. for a staged design-build approach to upgrading outdoor athletic facilities at their November 20th meeting. The goal for the project is to build new KHSAA regulation baseball and softball fields and associated amenities to enable the hosting of home night and post-season games. The construction work is expected to be completed in stages, with the target of having the new fields available by May 2025.
Superintendent Jackie Risden-Smith said the following: “The renovation of our athletic facilities has been a prioritized need of our district for quite some time. I am grateful for the Board of Education, Westwood community, and the Fairview Planning Committee for their commitment to the vision as we start the first phase of this $6 million dollar project. The timing of this announcement could not be better considering the recent release of our district’s annual audit showing continued financial stability while our district also recently received state academic testing results showing our elementary, middle, and high school making significant academic gains.”
The first stage of this project includes breaking ground on the softball and baseball fields in early Spring 2024. The completed project will feature state-of-the-art LED sports lighting, allowing Fairview to host night games and tournaments. In addition to the new sports fields and lighting, the staged project will upgrade the overall sports complex, including press boxes, dugouts, bullpens, improved parking and access, restroom and concession stand facilities. These renovations will dramatically improve the District’s athletic programs and provide student-athletes and the Westwood community with top-level facilities.
