Rodney joined the Performance Services team in 2025. Dr. Rodney Shotwell’s 33-year career in education began in the Burlington City Schools district in 1989. During his tenure with Burlington City Schools, he served as a teacher and coach at Williams High School. He taught and coached in the Alamance County School system before his acceptance into the first class of The North Carolina Principals’ Fellows Program in 1994. After completing the program, he was hired as an Assistant Principal at Orange County High School. In 1997, he was named Principal of Lexington Senior High School with Lexington City Schools. In 2001, Dr. Shotwell was named Superintendent of Macon County Schools, and in 2006, he was named Superintendent of Rockingham County Schools. He served for 16 years before retiring in 2022.
Dr. Shotwell received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master’s and doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Rodney is married to his wife, a retired school educator. They have two children. The oldest attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the other is a junior at Rockingham County High School.
