Comprehensive Capital Improvements

In 2024, the district was at a crossroads, with aging building systems requiring repair or replacement. After a community-wide survey, the board issued a capital referendum to address its infrastructure challenges while also improving safety and security at school buildings. On November 5, 2024, voters approved the $19.4 million capital referendum.

The referendum includes a series of capital improvement projects across multiple schools aimed at creating safer, more efficient, and conducive learning environments for students and staff. The two-phase project will address critical infrastructure, security, and Learning environment upgrades at Prairie View Elementary, East Troy Middle School, and East Troy High School.

Phase 1 Project Highlights

Prairie View Elementary School:

  • Secure Entry: Upgrade entryways to bolster school security, including a new service window and a secondary access point for controlled visitor entry.
  • Critical Mechanical Equipment Updates: Replace aging mechanical systems to improve building efficiency and comfort, including the chiller.
  • Window Replacements: Replacement of original, aging windows with new, energy-efficient, and safety-enhanced designs.
  • Roof Replacement: Removal of outdated roofing system with one that will increase the building’s thermal energy efficiency and provide long-term maintenance improvements.
  • Upper Gym Wall Repair: Installation of a modular metal wall system with a proper weather barrier to mitigate moisture intrusion issues.

East Troy Middle School:

  • Traffic Flow Improvements: Redesign drop-off and pick-up areas, including asphalt and concrete replacements/additions, to streamline student drop-off and improve safety by separating the drop-off loops, and limiting congestion on the street. Increase parking capacity and improved parking lot lighting will increase usability and safety for the school and the community.
  • Roof Replacements: Replacement of the roofing systems to reduce building maintenance and enhance energy efficiency.

Phase 2 Project Highlights

East Troy Middle School:

  • Secure Entry Administration Suite Improvements: Relocation of the entry point to strengthen security and provide a more conducive workspace for the administrative staff.
  • Science Lab Improvements: Upgrade laboratory spaces to support modern science education and learning environment.
  • Choir Relocation: Relocating the choir room to accommodate the new secure entry offered the opportunity to improve the versatility and acoustic quality of instructional space.
  • New Classroom Space: The relocation of the administration offices gave the opportunity to add an additional classroom for future program expansion.

East Troy High School:

  • HVAC Replacement & Repairs: Replace aging mechanical systems to improve building efficiency and comfort.
  • Roof Replacements & Repairs: Installation of new roofing systems to protect the building and enhance energy efficiency and provide long-term maintenance improvements.
